Installing python fabric on cygwin

I recently wanted to try out fabric and didn’t have a dev linux server at my disposal, so I set it up on my Windows machine under cygwin. Here are the steps to get it running.

1. Download setup.exe
2. Run setup.exe
3. Select the following packages:

  • python
  • python-crypto
  • python-paramiko
  • python-setuptools
  • gcc
  • wget
  • openssh

4. Start Cygwin
5. Run the following commands:

  • easy_install pip
  • pip install fabric

6. You should now be able to create a fabfile and start running commands against your hosts.
